Scope:
This apparatus is used for the examination of cut-back asphaltic materials by the distillation test.
Consists of following parts and accessories: 1. Distillation Flask
Capacity : 500mL
Type : Side-arm type having the dimensions shown in Fig. 1 of ASTM D402.
2. Condenser
Type : Standard glass-jacketed,
Length : 200 to 300 mm
Overall tube length : 450 ± 10 mm
3. Electric heater with Digital Temperature controller
Electric heater with Energy Regulator PT-100 Sensor.
4. Adopter
Heavy-wall (1-mm) glass, with reinforced top, having an angle of approximately 105°. The inside diameter at the large end will be approximately 18 mm, and at the small end, not less than 5 mm. The lower surface of the adapter will be on a smooth descending curve from the larger end to the smaller.
5. Shield
Lined with 3-mm fire proof insulation and fitted with transparent mica windows, of the form and dimensions shown in Fig. 2 of ASTM D402. It is used to protect the flask from air currents and to reduce radiation. The cover (top) will be made in two parts of 6.4-mm (1⁄4-in) fire proof insulation.
6. Flask and shield support
Two 15 cm2 sheets of 16-mesh Chromel wire gauze on a tripod or ring.
